Just a little hike we completed his morning! About a year ago I saw a photo of Angel's Landing at #zionnationalpark on Instagram and was instantly obsessed. Our family vacation was planned round this hike. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and looked at a lot of photos to mentally prepare for it...still not knowing if I could do it. Most people turn around at the 2-mile mark because they can't handle the heights. The #angelslanding trail is 2.5 miles (5 miles round trip) from trailhead to the top with a 1,488 elevation change. We left the kids at the 2 mile mark at Scout Lookout before Casey and I made the final 1/2 mile ascent to the top. That is where things got interesting and steep where the trail follows the ridge across a saddle and up the hogs back. I think Casey thought about stopping a few times (wink, wink), but I told him I was going to finish with or without him! #missionaccomplished#usnationalparks#utah#lucasfamilyvacation2017
Cold pictures for hot days 😩 Zion, Dec 2015. The second day after the snow the trails became icy and slippery after a day of foot traffic. We hiked beyond the point where most people turned back and followed a couple of bighorn sheep to this pristine scene.
Another from last year's piping hot trek through southern Utah. This is Emerald Pools in Zion National Park. It was 109ish (F) when we did this hike, which is stupid hot, especially when you're used to Seattle temps (they have heat advisories when temps rise to the upper 80's 😂😂). Beautiful area though. I'd do it again.
Sitting on an (Angels Landing) & Yoga 6.27.17
The hike up Angels Landing is not for the faint of heart. I don't have a fear of heights but I have a fear of ledges I can fall off of!
Each of these moments I was afraid to get in the position but my Beautiful friend lead the way and I overcame the fear.
Doing Tree pose on top of Angels Landing was the best experience. I saw a challenge and I went for it. I just wanted to climb up the rock formation but once I got up there I told myself let's push it further. Yoga has helped me realize the importance of now, to let go of what I cannot control, and to slowly push my own boundaries (shoutout to @modoyogala for having great teachers). I did all of those things in that one picture. I often find it hard to be content with an accomplishment or to take a complement but I can definitely say that I'm very proud of myself for doing this. I'll never forget that moment. I hope this message finds you well and you enjoyed my little story.
Keep exploring what makes you happy.
The majority of #AngelsLanding was steep and hard but a pretty usual hike. Until the ending, which is shown in this picture. 1,000+ foot drop offs on both sides with some chains to hold on to if you're lucky. If you zoom in, you can see some reeeeaaaallllly tiny people climbing up to the very top! Got a little nauseous when I saw what I had to do, but I did it! This trail has taken lives before, I'm thankful I made it! #ZionNationalPark
In this hike you tread water the entire way. Don't let the shallow water fool you, The current don't play!! Moments before this I slipped and used my knee to break my fall.
Nonetheless the view was gorgeous!
