Following up from my last post, I wanted to touch on the idea that while a majority of the Trump supporters during the Berkeley protest were white, there were still a small, yet significant number of people of color standing next to them. It is not at all new concept(s) for the some of the oppressed to stand with their oppressors, as well as disenfranchised groups of people to attack other marginalized communities which has been evident in US racial history. From Irish Immigrants attacking black people during the 1860s Draft Riots in New York, to Mexicans siding with a large group of white people in 1930 to wreak havoc on the Filipino community in Watsonville, CA. Overall, when I mentioned white mobs, I was talking about a group of people who operate under a banner of nationalism and white supremacy. Both strong ideologies and practices that extend beyond the white community and have continue to make other marginalized communities vulnerable to them.
When systemically pleasant #ffffff folk ask me personalized variations of, "Can't we all just get along?" and once I realize that their entire essay is really just a thin ass thesis statement in the form of a question with no proven research, no footnotes, no works cited.............aaaand once I conclude that this is in fact a quarter baked proposal for a group project but one where the token coloured kid does all of the actual work + mental gymnastics because the others - at varying levels - do not want to nor need to learn the topic, its subtopics, or even its very definition because they know full well but do not often care to admit (out loud / otherwise) that they will reap some 85% of Token's rewards for collectively putting in 0.3% effort anyway, either way, and regardless; ain't much Token can do about it ..... cept smooth and swiftly moonwalk tf away from that group like 🔥🔥🚶🏿💨➡➡ 🚪 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.................. So if after all of that messy inner analogizing, realization, and monologuing, I *still* find myself politely but firmly answering in the form of a justification as to why I dodge such lazy ass groups to get in where I fit in...I reread "I, Racist" by John Metta as penance. Every. Single. Time. Lawd learn me. 📿🙏🏿✨ .
Such a blast yesterday spreading the good word about @denyliumwellness to the world! Special thanks to @mehana414 and @edel2themetal for their modeling skills and enthusiasm when I asked them to do weird things, @mbaliblooms for a support system since the beginning when I began exploring this idea and it was still an ugly figment of my imagination (and for coming for the opening!) @benhamburgerart @kristenleebrown @aarongoldmans for all brainstorming sessions and support, the rest of the MFACA crew @lezlieder @ariverastudios @hami_k @zaina_shams. @slangsmith for guidance from sending me articles on Snapchat to all the convos that really challenged what I was trying to do @mkpeeples for dropping $10 into my venmo every week, unasked, so I could sustain myself working long hours at coffee shops trying to grind this stuff out, and for driving up from D.C. In rush hour traffic to see the show for 15 min. And of course @lendltellington my collaborator and patnah in crime- for the video editing, all the branding advice, documentation support, doing my laundry when I was stressed and texting me to make sure I was alive and well. I couldn't have done it without y'all. All the work was so new and pushed my boundaries and comfort level so far. Excited to see where @denyliumwellness goes. Stay tuned for more info on our next performance on May 6 at the White Lies group show at Space Camp! #denylium#design#designer#marketing#pharmaceuticals#whiteness#art#performanceart#parody#performance#branding#thesis#icantgetoutofbed

Self Portrait As Carolyn Bryant.
In response to Dana.
Carolyn Bryant was the woman who accused 15 year-old Emmett Till of whistling at her, leading to his lynching by her husband.
I say, yes, let's paint about race and America's history and it's present. As white Americans, Emmett Till's story is our story. Just not necessarily from Mamie Till's perspective. But as white women, yes let's look at this. Let's consider our weaponized bodies. Let's consider what we've allowed in our name. For our honor. Fuck while we're at it, let's consider the 2016 election.
