I used to get jealous of the couples who didn’t seem to fight as much.
I thought there was something wrong with us.
I thought we were weak.
But then I remembered, when I was young -
staring out the window during a rainstorm,
watching the redwoods bow beneath the torrents of wind.
"I think they’re going to break!” I said.
And my mom whispered back to me,
They were built for this.
Storms are the chance for certain trees to show off how strong they are."
On Sunday I had the privilege of leading a hike for the @coloradonps. We saw lots of wildflowers but this gem was my favorite. Shooting star flower "Enjoy the little things in life. For one day you'll look back & realize they were the big things." Kurt Vonnegut
If this tree could tell stories, I'd love to hear them. Being 4,848 years old, this tree was believed to be the oldest, living non-clonal organism on the planet until the discovery of another tree in the same area in 2012. "Methuselah" is wonder amongst the Great Basin bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) family, growing high in the White Mountains of Inyo County in eastern California.
I can tell you that it feels good to be asleep, to rest and dream, but I really only have so much to say about it. What I can tell you though is how good it feels to be alive. To breath, to see worlds gifts, to travel and have conversations with complete strangers. There is a gift to being alive and awake, seeing and hearing, smelling, having your senses awakened. Though life is not always "perfect" I try to practice the Yama "Ahimsa" meaning non-violence. Not necessarily physical like killing but to cause no harm with my thoughts, words, or actions to myself or others. Yes, I am not perfect and things happen especially with loved ones, but what matters is how to react to anything negative which you may have done, said or thought. Before a negative thought starts to come, can you pause and recognize it and then change it to love? Love has the power to cure almost anything even disease. Can we move in such a way of truth and love? Can we have positive intentions when trying to get attention from others instead of trying to become "famous," what ever happened to authenticity?? Live live live. This world offers us so much, sometimes we just need to take the pillow off our face to see. #medicine#plants#travel#trails#thegreatoutdoors#belove#behappy#lifestyle#liveauthentic#livelife#vsco#hiking#nature
It's hard to truly capture the essence of the American Southwest in a single picture, but I hope that this image of a lone painted horse overlooking Monument Valley can do it some justice.
I sat here taking pictures of this horse and one other one as they grazed on the limited supply of desert plants for nearly an hour, snapping picture after picture. It was a surreal experience and I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
