Each of us makes a myriad of choices every, single day but high on that list, is how we nourish ourselves.
I have struggled most of my life with "food" choices and weight gain. At times I have made great strides, several years ago I shed a 100+ pounds by eating better and logging 100's of miles on my bike.
FANTASTIC right?!? Well, yes and no. You see I did really well for a few years, pushing myself pretty hard, then complacency set in.
After a challenging event I'd stuff my face and get lazy. I earned it right? Turns out old habits crept back in and started eating/justifying"garbage" food, low in nourishment under the guise of "I'll pedal it off!". Well, I didn't.
Time passed and peak riding weight of 215 crept up pound by pound until this January, when I sheepishly stepped on the scale. Anger and disapproval stared back at me, nearly 270 pounds worth, dammit 😡! The good news is that I knew how to fix this. I remembered how well I felt back in 2013, eating mostly veggies, whole grains, very little dairy and meat. I was happier, more fit, and energetic too!
SO...I/we as a family made an adjustment to pantry and meal choices. This morning I revisited the aforementioned scale and I have broken 240 for the first time in nearly 2 years! ✊🏻✊🏻 Although I am not as fit as I was in the prime of my cycling days, I feel much, much better and lighter. Each passing day is an opportunity for more improvement and progression.
If you too fight this battle, know that you can win with effort and sound nutritional food choices!
