From San Francisco to Carmel and on down to the famous Bixby Bridge in Big Sur the California road trip is off to a great start. Due to the massive landslide we couldn't drive all the way through Big Sur but you can still drive down into it and enjoy some Big Sur coastline before rerouting down the 101 and back to the PCH. The good news is the views don't stop in Big Sur! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
BIG SUR HWY 1 UPDATE: The massive mud slide on Highway 1 is at Mud Creek, which is located about 20 miles north of San Simeon on the far southern edge of the Pacific Coast Highway. Latest estimates are up to a year to reopen. Highway 1 is closed from Ragged Point to Gorda. The new Pfeiffer Bridge should be completed by late-September. This is located just south of Big Sur State Park and Highway 1 is accessible to .5 miles south of that point from Monterey. Highway 1 - The Pacific Coast Highway - is a 90-mile stretching from Carmel to the north to Cambria to the south. NOTE: For those of you who know the area well, the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge is 1.1 miles south of Sycamore Canyon Road, which leads to Pfeiffer Beach and popular Keystone Arch. Currently Pfeiffer Beach is closed due to flooding and road damage. Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (McWay Fall) is also closed until further notice.
Both my upcoming Winter Big Sur Workshop http://bit.ly/1paPeRF and Spring Big Sur Workshop http://bit.ly/19S4vW5 will not be affected by either of the closures!

Beautiful California Coastline #Californiaofficial#discovercali#caliroadtrip#BixbyCreekbridge#beautifulCalifornia#Californiatourism#hwy1#fridayflashbacks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Last May, 2016, we took a road trip along California's scenic #Hwy1a on the coast. This year it will be quite different for those wanting to travel this #beautifulcoastline . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This past Saturday, May 20, 2017, an enormous landslide buried a quarter-mile section of the scenic coastal highway in California's Big Sur region, devastating a remote area of highway that hasn't been fully passable for months because of #landslides . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More than 1 million tons of rock and dirt fell Saturday onto the #PacificCoastHighway , considered by some to be one of the most scenic drives in the United States. The section is 1 mile southeast of the small community of Gorda, about 60 miles south of Monterey. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The landslide covered the road, also known as #StateRoute1 , in a 35-40 feet deep layer of dirt for about 1,500 feet. The highway is the main artery running through #BigSur , a picturesque stretch that is a major tourist attraction.
It's official. The end of an era. I don't even want to admit it but it's true. My cars repairs are officially too expensive for me to invest in. Time for a new one. I am interested in learning if I can get anything for her. This has never happened to me before. Ideas on even making a few bucks to like junk her for parts or whatever are much appreciated. Thank y'all. I'd love for someone to want to fix her up or something so I know it goes to a good home. I just need something bigger theses days too. It's such a sad way to say goodbye to my sweet, road worn, silver baby bullet. We've been across the country 10x in the past 10 years. Lterally on the edge of cliffs in #deathvalley and a giant meteor crater. We've been on a ferry on the Atlantic Ocean 17 miles off the coast of Rhode Island and in the middle of some of my favorite movie locations in America #monumentvalley#pacificcoasthighway#valleyoffirestatepark#batcountry#grandcanyon#area51#lonepinecalifornia to name but only a few. 😵😥🎬💣🖤 #hyundaiaccent#2007hyundaiaccent#lovemyhyundai
