I have never had someone SEND me a #toyhaul ... HUGE shout out to my fellow toy-show going and collector enthusiast @digidesdan for this box-in-the mail of kindness/awesomeness. If I had lived any other life where I would still be in WA State, I'm sure we'd have ended up great friends. Also, if any of you out there have good people in your life, set a side 30 minutes of your day to send them a card, a picture, a note, or anything and just let them know in some way.

Recently completed the Japan-only release, “Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru”, or “The Frog for whom the Bell Tolls” in English. I wanted to try it out expressly because it was only released in Japan and many called it a predecessor to Link’s Awakening. There are similarities, such as collecting items to advance and the overall visual style, but I’d say they play very differently. The “dungeons”, as they were, are pretty short and not particularly difficult. They are all in a side-scrolling format which is a great way to keep the gameplay fresh. The two biggest differences between this and Link’s Awakening would have to be the fighting style and the story. The combat in this game is not controlled directly by the player. Instead, you simply bump into an enemy and the hearts begin to deplete. The loser is whoever reaches zero hearts faster. The rate at which hearts deplete are determined by weapons, power-level etc. so there is a degree of agency. Also, the story itself is just… completely bonkers. I truly had no idea what to expect throughout the game. I liked that the main character and his friendly rival were kind of little brats to each other. Nintendo should really localize this! It may not sell well but it’s a very unique experience that deserves an international audience. #gameboy#nintendo#任天堂#カエルのために鐘は鳴る#thefrogforwhomthebelltolls
