How to tell if you're overtraining
If you're lifting tiny weights and spending long periods of time chatting between reps and sprints, that might explain why you're not seeing results. But if you're working out long and hard on a daily basis and not seeing results or you've hit a plateau that you can't seem to break through, this probably has to do with overtraining.
Other signs of overtraining include insomnia, fatigue, loss of motivation and irritability, persistent muscle soreness, and a decrease in your normal workout performance.
If any of these sound familiar, do yourself (and your metabolism) a favor and take your workout down a notch. Happy lifting❤️🏋🏻♀️
The Levator Scapula (LS) is a neck muscle that is undervalued in its role in neck stability. Many people complain about getting "knots" in the neck. The LS elevates and slightly retracts the scapula, contributing to downward scap rotation. --------------- Interestingly, when abdominal pressure is lost, or lack of IAP during heavy lifts, LS kicks in to assist for lateral spinal flexion. Many individuals have shoulder hiking (via traps and LS) & a huge compensation for lack of abdominal stability in same side lateral flexion, particularly with the QL. Those with hiked shoulders may trade Lat power with LS facilitation. Since the lats internally rotates the humerus with LS recruitment, the lat may be inhibited. . ( i.e. pull-ups or lat pulldowns). -------------------------
LS is linked to cervical instability, due to improper extension patterns in the cervical area ( often seen in heavy squats and deads). Therefore, it locks cervical spine to try to prevent its movement, often creating trigger points. Trigger points in this area can also be developed by working at the computer with your head turned ( seen everyday), or or carrying backpacks on one dominant side or the other. --------------- People with LS tightness often try to mobilize it. However, this causes LS to reflexively tighten more, creating more of perceived need to stretch. Just because something is tight, it doesn’t mean you should stretch it ( sometimes you can worsen the condition ) Often times, things will be tight in attempt to create stability. That's what your nervous system does. -------------- Practical Application: If your pull-ups, lat pulldowns and/or abdominal stability drills are lacking in power, your posterior neck is likely highly involved. Find out why LS is hypertonic, release LS, activate what is inhibited. Create better stability, core and lat engagement and feel good. #anatomy#muscles#movement#gains#performance#athlete#sport#health#science#strength#lift#results#instagood#picoftheday#flex#life#fitfam#coach#education#squats#back#training#gym#workout#bodybuilding#strong#power#fitness#exercise#followme
Jap Man Sat Nam
Feeling. Moving. Breathing. Being. Connecting. Releasing. Allowing. Arriving. Surrendering. Unfolding. Freedom. Nature. Duality.
Although within I am still. I am steady. I am beyond the movement, the fluctuations. As I allow my body to be free, I have more space to connect to the changeless within. Spirit reveals as we peel back the layers.
May this body, this vessel, this breath and all it is capable of, be in service to you. May this spirit have a clear passage for the divine to channel through. I offer myself to that which is the eternal One. I am that.
May I bring light. May I be love. May I serve truth. I give myself to you, and I ask that you may use me as a servant of thy peace. May I see the light in all beings everywhere.
For all that I receive, I must also give back to this world.

Sling series - part 6: Activating the posterior sling by driving the arms back when running helps engage the lats and glutes for ⬆️power and speed 💨 (no guarantees it will allow anyone to run a 4.4 40 though). Also, only 15 more Sundays until 🏈
