The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles. It originates on the anterior inferior iliac spine on the pelvis, and inserts of the tibial tuberosity via the quadriceps tendon. It along with the other 3 quads work to extend the knee, however the "rec fem" is the only one of the group to cross the hip. The crossing of the hip joint allows it to flex the hip and assist in tilting the pelvis anteriorly. It is also one of the primary muscles of walking
____________________________________________________________________. Rectus femoris tightness is heavily correlated with lumbopelvic dysfunction. With most people working while seated in a chair, the Gluteus Maximus becomes inhibited. This inhibition can lead to the quads becoming overactive and chronically shortened. This shortening causes lengthening of the hamstring group (often resulting in discomfort in the hamstrings), causing lordosis of the lumbar spine.
Due to the rectus femoris crossing two joints it is the most likely of the quad muscles to become short and tight. A common mistake that is made when attempting to stretch the quads is neglecting the pelvic origin of this muscle. By not posteriorly tilting the pelvis (tucking your tail) the rec fem is not fully lengthened. This common mistake leads most people to overlook their quad tightness when trying to correct postural issues or resolve lower body pain.
To best release the Rec Fem start with rolling or some other form of soft tissue work, followed by stretching it by posteriorly tilting the pelvis, extending the hip, and flexing the knee.
This alone might save your low back one day

#throwbackthursday to my first few months with coach @herford_r_ and the update I sent him this morning. There's about a year and a half between these two photos and body weight is the same. Ignore my sleepy face 🙃 Nowhere near satisfied but far from where I started! #hungry
Thanks for the free goodies @nlaforher ! The 'Her Multi Performance Chew' in the Strawberry Watermelon flavor tastes amazing! It's full of vitamins and is only 20 cal./chew with .5g of Fat and only 4g of Carbs 💪🏼😍 Now off to kill leg day!
Random posing practice. I don't practice posing enough and it definitely shows (so I definitely need a coach). Still undecided between starting out with either Classic or men's physique. 🎥: @cchin7.fit
There's always a difference. I am starting to see that with my work and way of life. Noticing how putting my wellness and health on hold while I "get things done," only leads to the deterioration of my overall well-being. Learning to understand the complexities of my choices and where that leads too, I am seeing how I can improve myself without having to "grind" it out in a nonsensical form.
Always adapt, improve, and understand what it is you want to do. There's always room to learn and love. 🙌🏽
