"When you’ve got uncommon career aspirations like I do, it can be quite hard to find a support network that understands what you want to do and encourages it. Sometimes people are quick to shut down your ideas and tell you that "you can’t do it”. For over 7 years I’ve worked my **** off, striving towards my goals of becoming a professional speaker and educator. I’ve always found it to be difficult to explain to the people around me why I don’t choose to go down the typical career path in corporate; why I choose to follow my passion and undergo uncertainty over a comfortable job that provides me stable income.
Not to mention, it can be a very challenging, frustrating and lonely experience - especially when you’re surrounded by people who have a pre-determined model of what success looks like, and just don’t understand why you do the things you do.
What I loved most about my experience with Austern, is that I’ve been able to meet some very open-minded individuals who are some of the most passionate and driven young people I’ve ever met; people who have a strong hunger to grow and improve themselves, to push themselves beyond their comfort zone and what they thought was possible.
More importantly, they are people who can relate, empathise, understand and encourage what I’m trying to achieve." - Alan, alumni

There are points where life is all about timing, and making the most out of opportunities. While exploring the @gcu @gcu_lopes campus, I ran into Olympic Medalist, former NBA player and current GCU Head Coach Dan Majerle. I asked to take a photo with him and he graciously said yes. Shook my hand and let me know his team is looking good for the 2017/2018 season. All of this happened because I made the choice to say hello and make the most out of an opportunity. Thank you #thunderdan#golopes

Drama is everywhere, don’t you think? Drama of any kind is such a circus. I remember going as kid to the circus, watching the entertainment, captivated by the spectacular lights and the bubbly clowns.
That’s the point.
The circus was entertainment.
Real life on the other hand or business is not.
What is your need for the drama or spectacle in your life?
How is that serving you and what are you getting out of that?
How is that working for you?
Monkeys on the other hand, very cute and cuddly. Well let’s put it out there. For all their cuteness, they are notorious for creating chaos and getting involved in perhaps what they shouldn’t.
When you go to the circus, do you run out into the middle of the big top and take over?
Do throw yourself in to the lion’s den whilst the ringmaster is engaging the lion in tricks?
Or do you plunge at the elephants circulating the stage, as there massive feet hit the ground.
Of course you don’t. You eat your popcorn, admire the magic before you and allow others to experience their journey. Who are you to take away someone else’s experience and learning?
Don’t you think it’s time to bring the same energy into everyday life and business?
Just a thought.

Lisa Conway- "I don't think it's any of your business where people spend their money. It's simply your job to recommend." Imagine you went to a doctor and you had a problem and the doctor didn't recommend you to have a particular specialist or to buy medication because he was afraid you might say that you can't afford it. How angry would you be if you found out from someone else that you could have had your problem fixed?
So with leaving New England, I also have to leave my unit. I can honestly say that being part of the Engineers has been the most rewarding experience within my Military career yet. I was thrown into a leadership position I wasn't sure how to handle, and gained the confidence and trust of a whole battalion. From dealing with mental health issues that arise within our force, to assisting a grieving unit deal with the pain of Suicide. This has opened my eyes to how we treat individuals that suffer from mental illness, as well as how we as leaders can help in breaking the stigma that surrounds it. I talk to my soldiers all of the time, I never want them to think I am unavailable to them because I am here for them, as their advocate and confidant. I want them to see the potential that I see within them, and I want them to rise to be the strong men and women that I know they can be. Planting the seeds of motivation; of hard work and discipline within them, is key to developing empathetic and successful leaders. One day, one of those Soldiers will take my place, and I want to make sure that I have given them the tools and experience to handle it. This text is from my supervisor, and we have developed such a strong friendship that I look up to her as my mentor and as a friend. She has pushed me to my limits because she knew I could handle it, she has tested me, and given me the tools to be successful. Words cannot express how much her mentorship means to me, or her guidance. I have been blessed with amazing female mentors within my career, and I am so glad that I can add another one to my path of success. Words can't explain how grateful I am to the ENGINEERS, they have made me the leader that I am today. #army#armystrong#armylife#reserves#armyreserves#crossfit#military#armyfresh#leadership#growingpains#resilience#engineers

March Madness is here! For those unfamiliar, it’s the one time of the year where we get to see 64 teams battle it out in single-elimination bracket play. What makes it even more exciting is that you really don’t have to know or follow college basketball to enjoy the tournament. The games are exciting, but what makes them even more so for a newcomer is the chance to fill out a bracket and compete against friends or colleagues. How could such a competition impact your company culture? Find out in our latest blog post – link in bio!
#throwbackthursday Who would of thought a trip to Africa a little over 3 years ago between young friends would unfold in such a noble pursuit to change the lives of children and orphans near and far. They have used their love for sports to make a difference for those less fortunate and we cannot be more excited to see how many more children will be helped as this movement grows. #daretodream#dogood#playup#playwithpurposesports#tbt

• Chi 🚂 Member for March • .
Congrats to Gary Allison for being the person you are on and off the Light .....
Gary kindly took some time out to share his time thus far on board the Chi 🚂
' I approached Chi because I was looking for a challenge both physically and mentally; as an alternative to the DYI method I had been using for years.
Chi had helped me (50 + male) with an all body improvement.... with endurance, core strength, flexibility and agility.
Over a one year period the results are self evident measurable and real !
A major plus with Chi's program is the variety of sessions available and that every session is different. Not repitative and as far as dull as can be imagined. Even in a group environment (max of 8) each individual is catered for and well looked after - no one is left out!
I have found the experience both stimulating and rewarding .... physically and emotionally AND I HAVE A BUNCH OF NEW FRIENDS!
I would recommend Chi to people who are looking to challenge themselves in order to achieve improvement with a totally supportive and always enthusiastic environment! '
