Camel Pose (Ustrasana) ๐Ÿ’› โœ… Keep the feet parallel to each other when you push up and if they turn out, adjust them back to parallel. A nice trick is to squeeze a block between the thighs as you come up. โœ… While this pose is a combination of hands and feet on the ground, the initial effort should come from the legs.
โœ… One of the key factors youโ€™ll need for this pose is upper body strength to allow you to lift up. Moving from High to Low Push Up, keeping the elbows wrapped in, will allow you to build the strength to come into Upward Bow.

Go one breath at a time ๐ŸŒŸ Stay positive, focus on the technique, and enjoy the process of buildingย strength and you will make progress on the inner journey each time you practice. 
Start in Malasana( Yogi Squat), place your hands on the ground and bend your elbows. Stabilizeย the shoulder girdle. Lift your hips slightly and walk the feet around and step on the hands. This is the basic preparatory pose that will lead successfully into Bhujapidasana. Stay for 5ย breaths before proceeding.
Keep the hips lifted by engaging the pelvic floor and lower abs. Bend the elbows slightly to prevent your weight from falling back or straining the wrists. Try to hook your toes behind your ankle. Broaden the collarbone as you gaze forward. Stay for 5ย breaths.

In addition, this asana stimulates the internal organs and works the core muscles. As with any of the different backbend and hip-opening asanas, it is advisable to warm up properly with preparatory poses such as warrior pose, extended triangle pose and low lunge pose.

Mermaid pose is also known as one-legged king pigeon pose B and eka pada rajakapotasana B in Sanskrit. ๐Ÿ’™ If your hip is not reaching the floor, set a rolled blanket or block underneath it. If your hands don't reach, use a strap.

I had actually never tried this pose before and found it so tough! 
I'm not sure I got to enjoy it, I was too focused on not falling. โฉย From Down Dog, step your right foot forward outside your right hand into a wide lunge and hug your inner right knee into your right shoulder. โฉ Drop your right shoulder down below your knee, sneak your right arm behind your calve and place the palm flat outside your right foot. โฉ Lower your back heel down and press through the outer edge your left foot, lifting your left inner thigh away from the floor. โฉWith your right index finger pointing straightforward, root down through the inner edge of the palm, draw your right shoulder back and turn the crease of your right elbow forward. โฉLift the front heel up and grab the outer edge of your right foot with your left hand. Press your back foot down for stability as you lean more weight into the bottom hand and lift the front foot up, pulling it in toward your torso with your left hand. โฉInhale and begin to extend your right leg straight, squeezing your inner thigh into the bottom arm, simultaneously pressing your bottom shoulder back into the leg. โฉDraw your left shoulder back, bending the top elbow toward the ceiling as your revolve your chest open.

I sat on my mat for 20 minutes wondering what my body had to give this morning after a two day wedding. Tired and a bit cranky, I made it through my first sun salutation, struggle.... put on some music and tried again. Pleasantly surprise that my body opened up and was like pull me, stretch me, twist me, strengthen me, trust me, heal me and above all love me. Music can be a powerful tool to get you out of your head and inspire your body to move and flow.

Rise on your toes lean forward and place the knee in such a way that the inside of the knee touches the outside of the upper arm as near as possible to the armpits. Lean forward further transferring the body weight to the arms and lifting the feet off the floor.

You can place a Yoga block in front of your forehand to balance on. Or place a cushion or bolster in front, so if you do fall you will have a soft landing.

Wild thing is a beautiful freeing backbend. It opens the chest and the heart area. Stretches the front of the legs and hip flexors and strengthens the shoulders and upper back. 
Prep poses - Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Vasisthasana (Side Plank Pose)

If beginning in Downward Dog, lift One leg high, toes pointing to the sky, then bend the knee of that leg and point toes towards your bum and then to the ground behind you. Spin your weight onto one hand, lifting your other hand up ( the side of the lifted leg)  Drop ypur leg to the floor and let your arm drape back behind you. 
Or enter from Plank Pose, then into 
Side Plank, step your left foot back behind you with the left knee bent and place the ball of your left foot on the ground.Begin to soften your shoulder blades and allow your upper back to curl into a backbend. Inhaling deeply, extend your lifted arm forward and down as a vibrant expression of the heart, and allow the head and neck to hang softly.Press down through the feet and the right hand to lift the hips yo the sky ๐Ÿ’™

Start with feet close togetherโ€  and the hands in prayer position.ย  Stand tall, inhale.ย  Keep the eyes on the fingers and extend the arms straight overhead.ย  Drop the tailbone toward the heels and firm down through the buttocks and inner thighs.ย  Press into the feet and lift the heart, extending the chest up.ย  Keep the palms togetherโ€  as you extend out through the fingers and press the hips forward.

The energetic extension, the imaginary elastic we are stretching, is from feet up the front of the body, through the crown and out the fingers.

Upward facing dog is a prone backbend, meaning that you begin by lying on your stomach, feet hip-width apart.ย Stretch your legs back. Tuck your toes for a moment and stretch out through your heels to lengthen the backs of your legs. Now untuck your toes and place the tops of your feet on the floor.
Place your wrists under your elbows when you straighten your arms. Your elbows should be close to your ribs, not flaring out to the sides, but not squeezing into your sides so much that your shoulders roll forward.
Now straighten your arms and press the tops of your feet down as you lift your torso and legs off the floor. Your wrists, elbows, and shoulders should now be โ€œstackedโ€ upright in one easy, energetic line.๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’›โœŒ

So.... I've been a little busy... absorbing, adjusting, adapting, crying, discussing, feeding, laughing, loving, singing, smiling... sleeping ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ดwashing, watching, worrying... and I could go on and on but you get the drift!

Yoga and as such, my own self care was on the back burner for a little while... well, up until a couple of weeks back really when it became so evident that I needed my walks and practice back. Stresses, strains, sensitivity and negativity all started to creep in and I felt the pull of gravity drawing me back to my mat...to my breath... to my practice ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜Œ Yoga with a toddler and a newborn sometimes equates to  a mat that resembles a crazyass toy shop! Teddies, trains, tiny cars (watch your toes ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ) and of course, tummy time ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜But everyday for the past few weeks, I roll out my mat and show up to my practice. It maybe just 5 or 10 minutes, more if I can manage it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป moving, stretching, breathing... and almost instantly I start to reap the benefits ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜Œ my meditation  practice these days is a must and fits in just before bed, morning time is just not an option right now ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ You could say my practice is somewhat haphazard at the moment but it's MY PRACTICE and it brings me back, lifts me up, grounds and engages me all at once and oh how I've missed it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ feels great to be back! #livingthedream #yogamama #yogamom #newarrival #newjourney #yogaeverydamnday #livingroomyoga #irishyogi #irishfitfam #marieloftusyoga #familylife #mayoireland #ballinamayo #tummytime #meditation #yogapracticenotyogaperfect #postpartum

Gently bend the right knee, and use your hands to place the right foot on your left thigh. Your soles must point upward, and the heels must be close to your abdomen with the toes hooked in.Do the same with the other leg.

If both your legs are crossed, and your feet are comfortably placed on the opposite thighs, model your hands into a mudra of your choice and place it in position.
