📚HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO YOU NEED?⠀
We know resistance training is the best way to build lean muscle which increases metabolism, strengthens our bones and slows the ageing process. But if you are not eating enough protein, it makes it very difficult for your body to repair and recover adequately from the work you're doing in the gym.⠀

When you consume protein, your body breaks it down into smaller molecules called amino acids. These are like the building blocks of lean muscle tissue, and the more active you are, the more protein you need. Protein is highly effective for fat loss, as it is digested slowly, keeping you fuller for longer, and requires more work by the digestive system to break down, hence increasing metabolism.⠀

Of course, like anything, consuming too much of any one food group - including protein - can have negative side effects. Even very lean, "healthy" protein sources can be converted into glucose and stored as body fat if you're eating too much. So how much DO you need?⠀

Based on current research, a sedentary person (that is someone who does little, if any, physical activity) requires a minimum 1g per kilo body weight. However, for those of us who are training hard and trying to build muscle, a minimum of 2g per kilo is a better target to aim for. If you're already quite lean, you could push this to 2.5g per kilo. And don't forget, as your body weight, body composition and activity levels change, so too does your daily protein requirement.⠀
