Leo Carillo State Beach - Malibu // We love beaches where we can bring our whole family - including our pup Kirby! 🏖🐶 Enter Leo Carillo State Beach -- the closest dog-friendly beach going north from LA County, and far less crowded than the equally dog-loving--but busier--Huntington Beach down south.
Located on the far end of Malibu, it's definitely a beach where you want to stay a while and bring enough beach supplies and snacks to make a day of it. We had a super fun time celebrating my belated birthday at the beach; tiring out both two and four legged kiddos running near the waves, picnicking under the sun umbrella and digging in the sand! Beached out, sandy and happy, both Kirby and Lucie immediately passed out for the whole car ride back home. 😴
Here are a bunch of quick tips: 👙Bring cash to park in the lot ($12), it's much closer (and safer) than parking on PCH and goes towards supporting the state parks. 👙Once you pay, there are two beaches with separate lots; Tide Pool beach which is a more kid-friendly cove with tide pools to explore (but not for dogs) and a long stretch of dog-friendly beach further north 👙I know I always say this but COME EARLY!! We whizzed in with no wait and parked right by the stairs to the sand at 10:30am, when we left at 1pm, there was a line of 30+ cars waiting 👙BYO snacks, sunscreen, sand toys, shade and plenty of water. There are no facilities to buy any of the above there. 👙 for overnight beachy adventures, there is a campground in the same area! ⛺️ ⭐️LL Suggestion: If you forgot anything, there is @vintagegrocers 5mins South off PCH where you can pick up last minute water, food and beach supplies including a sun umbrella. And if you want to take a more leisurely drive to/from the beach, stop by @malibuseafood shack, @cafehabanamalibu by @malibulumberyrd further south, or iconic @reelinnmalibu closer towards Pacific Palisades for 'pick-your-fish', cooked-to-order plates.🐟//S☀️ # LLMalibu
