SCHOOL VS FREEDOM Institutionalized education is teaching us to be led, not to be leaders. We get it over and over in school— we have to do this specific assignment, in this specific format and this specific way, even in this specific font size. “Be creative,” the teachers told us. “But only within these specific boundaries.” Anything else was 'bad.' So we do the assignment, because if we don't we get punished with bad grades. We do the assignment exactly the way they told us to, because if we don't we get punished with bad grades. And over the years, we began to associate coloring outside the lines with ’bad.’ Now what happens to those of us who never realize how imprisoned they were in school? They grow up, get a job, get married maybe. They start thinking the way school taught them. “But without government regulation everything would be chaos!” Because it's been ingrained in them since kindergarten that people can't be trusted with freedom and they are to be punished for not following the rules. –Emily
Art making, we discussed how you feel during the art making process and how art is not about painting houses and rainbows. I told my kids to just enjoy the process and paint something about nothing. This is the product and I'm overwhelmed by how beautiful their paintings are. We discussed how when you paint, things don't always go as intended and how they can changed the unwanted into something else. They know and I've drilled it into them that art is not about perfection and there is no such thing as making a "mistake" in art. It's about the process and how you feel during painting. My kids do not "colour in" worksheets/stencils as I feel it does not foster creativity. ✌🏼#ihatecolouringinbetweebthelines ✋ #sydneyschools#departmentofeducation#creativity#art#abstractart#studentcentered#freedomfromstencils
Did you know? For the most part, principals are also a racially homogenous group.
In the 2011 – 12 school year, a majority of public school principals were white (80 percent), while 10 percent were black and 7 percent were Hispanic. In the 2003–04 school year, the proportion of public school principals who were white was 82 percent, and 11 percent were black and 5 percent were Hispanic. #departmentofeducation 2016 #SpeakRivers#workingmom#womenleaders#motivate#inspiration#lowellhighschool
Just a friendly nudge that you should complain against #fedloan servicing by talking with friends at the #bbb or #cfpb . Sure, borrow a quarter-million for #education and be screwed repeatedly during the #loan repayment stage. Please share, complain, repost, etc. www.consumerfinance.gov www.bbb.org

National Higher Education Day is observed annually on June 6th. Being able to afford higher education has became a luxury for most nowadays as student aid grants no longer provide full coverage for college tuition. Without the combined assistance of financial aid, scholarships and loans a college education may be unobtainable for most! As a result dependency of student loans to cover loose ends can cause student loan debt to rack up pretty fast --while without that "dream job" the ability to repay student loans can be fairly slow.
Defaulted student loans has a huge impact on credit scores. This is because compared to other loans only reflecting 1x on your credit reports, student loans are typically broken into several loans. So when 1 loan goes into collection THEY ALL go into collection which can send your credit in the dumps pretty quickly.
Also, not all student loans are effected by Statue of Limitations Laws which means the likelihood of your wages being garnished and a lien or judgment being placed against you are likely!! So we definitely don't want student loans to fall by the way side. If you think due to financial hardship your loans may be going into default or are currently in default contact your loan service provider regarding the "loan rehabilitation program". Loan rehabilitation is a one-time opportunity to clear the default on a defaulted federal education loan and regain eligibility for federal student aid. If you redefault on the loan, you will not be able to rehabilitate the loan a second time. If a judgment has been obtained on the defaulted loan, it is not eligible for rehabilitation.
After the borrower has made 3 consecutive on-time, full monthly payments on a defaulted loan, the loan may be consolidated.
After 6 consecutive on-time full monthly payments on a defaulted loan, the borrower regains eligibility for federal student aid.
After the borrower has made 9 out of 10 consecutive monthly payments on a defaulted student loan the loan may be rehabilitated and the default removed from the borrower's credit history.
Reasonable and Affordable Payments - I have managed to get my clients approved for payments as low as $5.00!

for one of the many unfilled but vital federal positions that Trump is slacking on. Type in this URL for the list of available “jobs”! tinyurl.com/openposts
Background: While we have paid a lot of attention to Trump’s Cabinet appointments, there are many other high-level roles in the federal government that also need to be filled. For these roles, the President must first nominate a candidate, and then the Senate must confirm them. There are ~1200 of these positions, so it can take some time.
However, Trump has yet to even nominate people for the most important roles. To date, for 559 of the most essential posts, he has only put forth nominations for about 19% of them. That rate is way behind all of our most recent presidents.
How serious are these vacancies? In the short term, not too serious- Trump can appoint people to fill in the vacancies. But in the longer-term it is a serious problem. It leaves our government vulnerable in situations of crisis and also hampers the ability to execute policies. (Though under Trump, that last part is may be a partial blessing!) In addition, Trump’s many fights (including with rank-and-file Republicans and the intelligence community) will make it more difficult to find qualified people who will be willing to serve in these temporary roles.
We’re well overdue for nominations. We also think we’re more qualified than many of Trump’s nominees so far, so let’s do it! #nominateyourpet#catsagainsttrump#dogsagainsttrump
Martin Seligman found that for every 100 studies on negative psychology, there was only 1 study on positive psychology. Which means, we seemed to be getting a grasp on how to get unhappy people into a neutral state, but we weren't quite sure about how to get people from a neutral state to HAPPY.
This is where Positive Psychology comes in. There are scientifically proven ways in which we can help people move from a neutral life, to a 'happy' life, or a highly satisfying life of meaning and fulfillment. Furthermore, Positive Psychology can prevent mental illness, if implemented from a young age.
This is why I am all about Positive Education. If children knew the principles of Pos Psych and practiced them from a young age, how different our society could be.
