"THE #SON of one of nine people shot and killed by #racist gunman #DylannRoof inside a #Charlestonchurch has been drafted by major #baseball team, the #ChicagoCubs .
#ChrisSingleton was in university when his mother, #SharondaColemanSingleton , a 45-year-old track and field coach, was gunned down in a racially-motivated attack at the Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 15, 2015.
At his mother’s funeral, Chris, then a baseball player at Charleston Southern University, said he’d last spoken to his mother by phone while she was at Bible study.
He had called to ask where she had hidden the remote control in their house.
She whispered that it was in the closet, tucked away so his little brother would not play too many video games. “If we just love the way my #mom would, then the hate won’t be nearly as strong as the #love is,” Singleton said at the funeral.
Just two years shy of the second anniversary of his mum’s passing, Chris, who was left to take care of his two younger siblings, was called as the 585th draft pick during the 19th round of the MLB draft.
The Cubs’ decision comes just after Singleton finished his junior season at CSU, starting in all 51 games, recording 18 steals, 38 runs scored and four home runs. #foodforthought#rbg#problack#blackwomanrock#blackmenrock#blackisbeautiful#blackexcellence#blackgirlsrock#sayhername#repost @theyoungempire_
To ME! Thankful. Grateful. Blessed! I wasn't really looking forward to this day because I didn't think I had accomplished much in my "Jackie Robinson" year, not like I had hoped. I wanted to change an industry by showing up!! But, thankfully a lifetime sisterfriend reminded me, 42 wasn't so bad 😏 First Marvelous Girls' Summit happened in my Jackie Robinson year. My book was published in my Jackie Robinson year. Met some marvelous girls to mentor in my Jackie Robinson year. Definitely trusted the Lord more in my Jackie Robinson year. Took another leap of faith professionally in my Jackie Robinson year. Saw a lot of post-it prayers answered in my Jackie Robinson year. In other words, there is so much to celebrate! There is so much to shout about! There is so much to sing about! Thank you lifetimer, for reminding me of it all! So get ready y'all, the international holiday is here!! It's MY BIRTHDAY!! 🎉🎂🤗🙌🏾🙋🏽💃🏽👸🏽🌷🎈🎁🛍🌞

Zondra Johnson should have been proud of herself having graduated high school at the age of 16 and gone to college directly from her single mother’s home. However, she took with her the stigma of the black hue of her skin and every insecurity growing up without a father and a strict mother in Authors Zach Tate and Elissa Gabrielle’s “No Arms to Hold Me.” Learning life on the fly, yet armed with words of wisdom from her mother and grandmother, Zee found herself involved with life events that some would say could have been avoided, should have been; but that line about her eyes? Well, let’s say it always seemed to be the opener to a new journey in Zee’s life.
In a short span of time, Zondra found herself trying to be a woman, a sister, a mother, a wife, and so many things in between. But for every #woman who has had to #struggle with “self” and what that means to them, from the color of their skin, the size of their bodies, where they come from, or if their fathers have been in their lives, you will find yourself relating to, rooting for, and finding hope through Zondra’s #journey . As she comes into who she is in her #quest for arms to hold her, maybe you will, too.
