Driving up to #waimeacanyon state park from the beach the land is dry and barron - so different to the north shore.
Then suddenly you reach the top ridge of the canyon and it explodes with greenery and life once more - Gumtree's and rich dark earth making it feel almost as if you're in the Australian bush.
We passed picture perfect camping grounds of green grass and shady trees along, small cabins and astronomy towers.
And there constantly, around a bend or beside a stretch of narrow road was the Canyon. More than 10 miles long and 3500ft deep, full of waterfalls and coloured rock.
The drop from the ridge was enough to make your stomach turn, but gosh the sight and the majesty of it all was beautiful.
