You might think we're smiling because we have cool umbrellas, but we have new reason to dance in the rain!
There were adoptive families on Capital Hill today, advocating for all of us with babies waiting in Ethiopia to come home. They had in-person meetings with many senators and congressman, and they were told that meeting in person was helpful and gave them a sense of urgency.
The tone in the afternoon after the State Department call with Congress was markedly different. They were told that there were so many members of congress on the call that it took almost 10 minutes for everyone to just say who was there. (So your calls were not in vain!) They told us that already there was a clear sense of needing to give this situation priority. .
We are so thankful for all of you that have prayed, made calls, sent messages and signed & shared the petition! It is making a huge difference ya'll!
There is a unified plan of action going forward and we are SO encouraged! .
NO TEDROS 4 WHO! SPREAD THE WORD! TEDROS IS A KILLER!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm proud of the Ethiopian diaspora in Switzerland! This is amazing and a great way of actively showing the World Health Organization that this man is evil! A killer! He has no qualifications nor the same moral values of quality of life to become Director of WHO! He is the behind the cover up of Cholera in Ethiopia calling it "Acute Diarrhea" and behind the inhumane and illegal sterilization procedures on Amhara women in Ethiopia! THIS RESULTED IN A 2.5 MILLION DECREASE IN THE AMHARA POPULATION! It is an incredible shame on the World Health Organization to EVEN consider this criminal as a finalist! SHAME ON THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION! SHAME ON YOU TEDROS ADHANOM! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~THE WEST CANNOT KEEP TURNING A BLIND EYE TO AFRICA! STAND WITH THE AFRICAN PEOPLE FOR ONCE! I'M SICK & TIRED OF THE CONSIST SUPPORT MAJORITY OF AFRICAN REGIMES HAVE BEEN GETTING FROM THE WEST! IT'S ENOUGH! There is nothing better than having a nice cup of coffee as work companion.
We are serving espresso blend of El Savador San Emilio and Ethiopia Guji G3 roasted by Frank Laurent Coffee Roaster for our milk based coffee.
It's a well balance cup with sweetness, body and flavours.
Dejen is a 12y-boy from Getarge, a small village at the countryside, 42 km far from Lalibella. Once there is no school, he moved to Lalibella when he was only 7 years old, with the purpose of studying.
He moved with his friend Tomase who was 12 years old and came with the same purpose.
Dejen is currently at the grade 6th, his favorite subject is English and he recognize himself as a clever student. Actually, he is. He is addicted to the capital cities (he knows all the European capital cities' names).
Both live together and they pay their food (usually only bread and tea and when they get a little more money, they eat injera) by cleaning shoes, after school time.
Dejen would like to be a water engineer when he grow up, because they have not a clean water ("we only have dirty and contaminated water"). - "At the countryside we don't have a water engineer. So I would like to help my people and my country". I spent part of my 2 days with them, we had interesting conversations, we went for dinner out together and we took care of each other's.
On my last hours, they surprised me with a gift: 2 postcards about their home and Lalibela.
They cleaned my snickers too, but they didn't accept any money for the service. They told me that I was like family (like mama) so they couldn't charge me at all. Actually they didn't accept any money I tried to give them during my stay there.
At the end I asked Dejen what he was needing at the moment.
- "if it makes you happy, I really need a book (dictionary Amharic-English) with 4.000 words and at the end it has all the capital cities of the world"
Obviously, I bought him that book and I tried to write an inscription to him. But he stopped me:
- "My teacher doesn't allow us to write on the new books"
- Why? The book is yours... - "No... the book is for all my colleagues. I'll hand it to the teacher and all of us will have access to it"
Note: he's favorite soccer team is Real Madrid and he's favorite player is @cristiano .
A group of men from Dawuro play the Keberö and Dinka, c. 1971
The name 'Dawuro' represents both the name of the land and people. Dawuro is found 474km southwest of #AddisAbaba and shares boundaries with Wolayta, Keffa & Jimma to its north.
Dawuro has not been well known by most Ethiopians until recently, because of the hydroelectric power dam (Gibe III) being built on the Omo river between the Wolayta and Dawuro zones. Dawuro was a highly centralised powerful kingdom until it was incorporated into modern Ethiopia by Menelik in 1891.
Among the rich heritage of the Dawuro are the great defensive walls built without mortar (walls of Halala) and the longest woodwind instrument in the world, known as the Dinka (as shown). It is sad that much of the history in southern Ethiopia does not get more recognition.
If you're a fan of Jeff Huntington and you've been watching this mural progress, you may have seen it finished; if not here it is.
Such a pleasure to work with @jahru and @feedajane! PARK AVE AT FRANKLIN ST., Baltimore, MD.
