Unseen for 25 years... This gigantic #CyTwombly from the early 60's 'Leda and the Swan' - one of his most accomplished works - will finally be available to the market this spring from @christiesinc #auction house.
Estimated price range is $35 - $55 million.
Not only is the work critical to Twombly's overall career and a rarity to the market, but the artist is also currently being honored with a major retrospective by #LeCentrePompidou @centrepompidou - an influential factor in imparting value to the piece.
"Infused with #paint applied by hand, brush and stick, 'Leda and the Swan' is a stellar example of #Twombly ’s amalgamation of #myth and eroticism during a period in which the artist, who had moved to #Rome some five years earlier, was immersing himself in the wider culture of the #Mediterranean ." - @christiesinc
Could this piece go north of its upper estimate of $55 Million? Mark your calendars for May 17th to find out!
I pulled this random book off the top shelf in the art section because I was attracted to the colours on its spine. It happened to bare the exact same Cy Twombly image as my phone case from @centrepompidou which I picked up recently. Yes, it's just a book & a plastic case, but the moment was eerily surreal. There is magic in Shakespeare & Co book shop and I have a strange connection with this painting ✨📚🔮🎨✨ #encounterswithart#autunno
#rainymorning#fog this morning view reminds me of beautiful paintings by Cy Twombly. I remember seeing photographs he use to take which are less known but gave me thrilling insight into his creative vision and outburst of expression. #cytwombly
A Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol and a Cy Twombly all on display for Free. And that's just the modern wing, Gotta love The Menil. I couldn't sneak pics of the Picasso's, Degas and the other heavy weights. Pic 1: The Red Door
